The Wii U, initially known by its codename Project Café is a home video game console released in North America on November 18, 2012 and in Japan on December 8, 2012, as a successor to the Wii. Due to poor sales, selling only 13 million units as of 2019, it was discontinued on January 31, 2017, and shortly after, it was succeeded by the Nintendo Switch.
