Background

Portfolio Entertainment is a Canadian television production and distribution company based in Toronto, Ontario. It was founded in 1991 by Lisa Olfman and Joy Rosen with a focus on children's programming, later expanding into primetime production.

1st Logo (October 4, 1993-December 3, 1999)

Logo: On an orange gradient background, we see a blue box. A stack of white papers then falls from the box. Below that are the stacked texts "PORTFOLIO" and "FILM & TELEVISION INC" ("INTERNATIONAL" in Something for Nothing), both in a Times New Roman-ish font.

Technique: The papers falling.

Music/Sounds: None, or the closing theme.

Availability: Rare. Spotted on Groundling Marsh and the animated TV movie Something for Nothing.

Legacy: It's kinda boring.

2nd Logo (December 18, 2001-July 10, 2016)

O4pIDasSisGi9GoVOG-4cA10921.jpeg.jpg

Logo: On a white background, we see the word "PORTFOLIO". A red man silhouette with an umbrella dances on the logo, making the letters deform (and bouncing the "O" back to place with his umbrella after he steps off it). Then he opens his umbrella and jumps, freezing mid-air. "ENTERTAINMENT" fades in below.

Variant: A still version exists.

Technique: The man dancing on the logo. The animation seems to be rotoscoped and rather choppy.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the show, or rarely, a piano ditty.

Availability: The still version appears on PBS airings of The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That, and the animated version was seen on Treehouse airings of said show, RoboRoach, Carl², Doki and the failed pilot of Chinatown Cops. The variant with the piano ditty can be found on Stolen Miracle.

3rd Logo (June 20, 2016-July 1, 2019)

904dcdbaa30614b3acd72edebe1626c2.jpeg.jpg

Logo: We see the word "portfolio" with "entertainment" in small aligned right below it on a white background. To the right of it is the man, who is now neon red, who appears mid-air with his umbrella open in his right arm, clicking his heels together and sticking his left arm out.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the show.

Availability: No longer current. First seen on Freaktown.

Legacy: Same as before.

4th Logo (June 1, 2020-)

Portfolio Entertainment (2020).png

Logo: On a light blue gradient background, we see a low close-up of the man from before, now in black, dancing on the word "PORTFOLIO" in the same way as the 2nd logo, but with different movements. "PORTFOLIO" casts a shadow on the floor, and its letters deform just like in the 2nd logo, while also lighting up in different colors when the man steps on them. Then as we zoom out to full view, the man jumps up, opens his umbrella, and freezes mid-air, turning into a black-and-white photograph. Meanwhile, the background fades to white, and a thin black line and "ENTERTAINMENT" below it fold in below "PORTFOLIO".

Technique: The man dancing like the 2nd logo while the text changes colors, the zoom-out, the background changing to white, the man turning into a B&W photograph, and the line and text.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the show.

Availability: Current. First seen on Hero Elementary. Will likely be seen on all other productions moving forward.

Legacy: A cool and creative update to the 2nd logo.
