Pirates World Pictures

From Audiovisual Identity Database

Background: Pirates World was a theme park in Dania, Florida (now Dania Beach) that first opened in 1967. A few low-budget children's films were filmed here, which were often screened as weekend matinees at mall theaters. Sales slowed in 1971 when Walt Disney World first opened up, followed by bankruptcy in 1973, until finally shutting down in 1975. A biblical theme park was planned in 1978, but that fell through. Condominiums have since been built over the land.

(1970-1972)

Logo: We see the yellow text "PIRATES WORLD" in an old-fashioned font, with "presents" below it in small print, superimposed on the screen.

Closing Variant: We see a drawing of a white pirate holding a wireframe globe in his left arm with "Another Fine Picture From PIRATES WORLD. Come Visit Us In Dania, Florida." "PIRATES WORLD" is written in the same font as the opening logo.

Technique: Both are superimposed.

Music/Sounds: The opening theme from the movie.

Availability: Rare; seen on Thumbelina (1970), which aired as part of the 1972 Christmas kiddie matinee Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny, the latter of which was used as a framing device for said film. Should also be seen on Jack and the Beanstalk, Santa and the Three Bears, and Musical Mutiny.
