KCSM-TV is a non-commercial independent (formerly PBS) affiliate located in San Mateo, California.
1st Logo (1978-1993)
Note: The logo can be seen here.
Logo: On a blue background, we pan downward to a white outline of a map of the San Francisco Bay Area with a grid filled in, along with two yellow stars. When the camera stops panning down, wireframe outlines of the San Francisco skyline and the Golden Gate Bridge pan up, and one of the yellow stars turns into a yellow semi-circle, almost like a sun. Then, "KCSM", in Antique-Olive, shoots from the other star, with yellow, orange, and red flares following behind. After "KCSM" settles in place, "SAN MATEO/SAN FRANCISCO" appears below.
Technique: Early Scanimation/computer effects.
Music/Sounds: Most clips of this logo feature countdown beeps as its music.
Availability: Extinct on TV. Seen at the start of Computer Chronicles episodes from that era, even with WITF co-producing the show. Most of them are available on the Internet Archive however, so it shouldn't be hard to find.
Legacy: It is well-known due to its cheap graphics and longevity.
2nd Logo (1998-2002)
Logo: Over an image of Earth focusing on California, the circle P-Head logo fades in, as does "KCSM", colored aquamarine. Circling the P-Head is "Learning for a lifetime", and "Productions" fades and zooms out below.
Technique: The fading in of the circle P-Head and the text, and the fading in and zooming out of "Productions".
Music/Sounds: A mystical synthesizer jingle.
Availability: Seen at the end of 2000's Sit and Be Fit (originally produced by KSPS) and Body Electric (originally produced by WFSU) episodes.
3rd Logo (2002-2004)
Logo: On a blue background, we see a map of California, with the word "KCSM" in aquamarine next to it and the word "Presentation" below.
Music/Sounds: A short theme.
Availability: Seen at the end of Body Electric on KQED-TV in 2002 and Sit and Be Fit on PBS stations.
4th Logo (2004)
Logo: On a black background, we see a spinning circle, followed by the text "KCSM", "43" and finally "DIGITAL PRODUCTION".
Technique: The logo shining.
Availability: Seen at the end of ReConnections.
