Anglia Productions

1st Logo (October 27, 1959-1960?)

Logo: On a black background, a white silhouette of the Anglia pennant flag is shown with "ANGLIA" in a thinner font. On top and underneath are the words "AN" and "PRODUCTION".

Variant: An opening variant exists, consisting of the normal logo superimposed onto the opening scene of the programme with "PRESENTS" underneath.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Extinct.

  • This was only a placeholder logo.
  • Seen on the earliest Anglia Television original programmes such as its very first production, Introducing Anglia, and Birth of a Regiment.

2nd Logo (1960?-1970)

Logo: Against a cloudy background, the 1959 Anglia flag is shown with "PRODUCTION" underneath it.

Variant: On A Tribute to Shakespeare: The Unparalleled, the text "AN ABOUT ANGLIA SPECIAL PRESENTATION" appears underneath the flag.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Near extinction, as many programmes from this period are lost, out of print, and difficult to find.

  • It was seen on Encircled Force, For Those in Peril: The Story of Henry Blogg and A Tribute to Shakespeare: The Unparalleled.
  • Some of them are found on the East Anglian Film Archive.

3rd Logo (1966-March 21, 1988)

Logo: On a blue background, a full shot of the silver knight model is shown standing on a gold horizontal bar. To the left of it is the Anglia logo in gold and "COLOUR PRODUCTION" in a stacked format placed underneath, overlapping with the bottom line.

Variants:

  • "COLOUR PRODUCTION" may be reworded to "PRESENTATION" or simply "PRODUCTION".
  • For Anglia's Channel Four-produced programmes, the knight is displayed without the yellow line on its background but with the text of "AN ANGLIA TELEVISION PRODUCTION FOR CHANNEL FOUR" below it.
  • Another version exists with the word "PRODUCTION" at the bottom left of the screen, and the copyright text "© Anglia Television Limited (year)".
  • An early variant features the logo in black and white, the knight model is darker, and the bar is thicker.
  • On various programmes from the 1970's, the knight is brighter.
  • A filmed variant exists, featuring the knight in a brighter tone and the text is nearly white.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Very rare.

  • The opening variant appears on Survival and Farming Diary episodes from this period.
  • However, the normal closing logo does not appear on the former show as it would use an in-credit notice instead.
  • It was also a victim to plastering to the 2001 Granada or 2013 ITV Studios Global Entertainment logos on Tales of the Unexpected and series 1 of Knightmare.
  • However, 2000's Challenge airings of the latter had this logo intact.
  • This logo was also preserved on DVD releases of their many TV movies such as Shroud for a Nightingale, Cover Her Face, The Black Tower, among several others.
  • Several of these programmes, with this logo intact, can be found on BFI Player and the East Anglian Film Archive.

4th Logo (March 21, 1988-November 7, 1999)

Logo: On a different slate background than the normal logo, we see a print version of the flag from before, with the text "ANGLIA Production" underneath.

Variants:

  • Sometimes, a copyright date is seen below.
  • An animated version exists where the logo is instead an unmodified version of the 1988 Anglia ident.
  • A version with the words "ANGLIA TELEVISION Production" below the logo also exists which was seen on current prints of Miss Morrison's Ghosts.
  • "ANGLIA Production" may be reworded to say "AN ANGLIA PROGRAMME", "ANGLIA PROGRAMME for ITV" (with the 1989 ITV logo below from September 1, 1989 until October 4, 1998), or "ANGLIA Production for Channel Four" (for Anglia's Channel Four-produced programmes).
  • On series 2 of Knightmare, the 1988 Anglia logo appears within the Broadsword Television logo.
  • On The Prayer For Us All the logo is next to the 1989 TVS logo and underneath it reads "Anglia/TVS Production for ITV" with the 1989 ITV logo below.
  • In the logo's later years, it was seen within the United Productions logo.
    • One programme had the logo lack its turquoise background.
  • On Anglia at 40, "40" is placed on top of the triforce flag and "YEARS" is underneath it.
  • On Boot Sale Challenge, the URL reading "www.angliatv.com" appears below the words "AN ANGLIA PROGRAMME".
  • On Fragile Earth, the logo appears with the text reading "PRODUCED BY OXFORD SCIENTIFIC FILMS IN ASSOCIATION WITH ANGLIA TELEVISION FOR CHANNEL FOUR" appearing below.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the programme or a medieval-type fanfare that was different from the ID for the animated version.

Availability: Rare.

  • Was seen on many productions from this period such as Tales of the Unexpected, Knightmare beginning with series 2, Fantomcat, Rocky and the Dodos, The Animal Shelf, and Fox Busters, among many others.
  • Survival began using this logo with the episode "Seasons of the Sea" and until "Swamp Gorilla: Mystery of the Magic Marsh".
  • The animated version is ultra rare, as it was found on some Survival episodes from the period.
  • This was also used to plaster over the previous logo on programmes dating from the late 1970s and early 1980s such as Science Report.
  • The United Productions variant was seen on Foxbusters and series 3 of Where the Heart Is.
  • Series 1 and 2 of the latter uses the standard logo and is intact on streaming prints of the aforementioned show.
  • However, the normal logo saw less usage in its later years when it was a subsidiary of United Productions.
  • Some original programmes otherwise lacked this logo despite Anglia being credited such as Bring Me The Head of Light Entertainment and Touching Evil.
  • Like before, it is intact on DVD releases of TV movies like Devices And Desires and Unnatural Causes, among others.

5th Logo (2001-March 15, 2004)

Logo: We see the same Granada purple end card with the corporate logo used by all other Granada-owned regions, however, the shadow copies are of the 1988 Anglia Triforce symbol, and the square has the white Anglia Triforce logo inside with the text reads "An Anglia Television Production".

Variants:

  • On 911: The Firefighters Story, the text underneath changes and now reads "An Anglia Television Production for Channel 5 in association with Granada International".
  • On Demolition Day, the 1999-2004 Channel 4 logo appears on the right.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: None or the ending theme to the show.

Availability: Extremely rare, since less programmes were produced by the company at this point.

  • Seen on 911: The Firefighters Story and Demolition Day.

ITV Anglia Productions

Availability: Extinct.

  • It was only found on original airings of The Price of Fish and Upstairs Downstairs.
