Gathering of Developers

From Audiovisual Identity Database

Background

Founded in January 1998, Gathering of Developers (aka GodGames and later Gathering) was a company created as a relationship-based publisher that aimed to treat its developers with respect. Many independent developers were consolidated with GoD. Take-Two Interactive Software purchased the company and some of its developers in May 2000. Since this point, Gathering became just a publishing division, until it was discontinued in 2004 and its assets were moved into Global Star Software (later part of 2K Games as "2K Play").

1st Logo (May 7, 1998-June 30, 2000)

Logo: In a bright flash, the logo appears, reading "GATHERING OF DEVELOPERS". The tails of the first "G" and last "S" are extended to cover the logo like two arcs. When the logo is complete, a light appears around, but the logo's surface remains black.

Variant: On Railroad Tycoon II for the Dreamcast, a steam locomotive arriving to a train station is seen inside an oval space. The logo fades onto the footage, then the footage fades out, leaving only the logo.

Technique: 2D animation.

Music/Sounds: A "fsshh" sound of light splash, followed by a quiet humming entry.

Music/Sounds Variant: The Railroad Tycoon variant has the train whistling, followed by the quiet humming.

Availability: Seen on Jazz Jackrabbit 2 and other games.

2nd Logo (November 11, 1999-September 6, 2002)

Logo: The black and white logo from before is written letter-by-letter starting from the left, and the arcs are drawn from their starts.

Technique: 2D animation.

Music/Sounds: A rough sound resembling an ancient stone hatch opening.

Availability: Seen on the PC version of Mafia, Age of Wonders and Fly! 2K.
