Background

Cineworld Cinemas (also known as Cineworld) is a British cinema chain company that was founded by Steve Wiener in 1995. The first Cineworld theatre opened in Stevenage, Hertfordshire in July 1996. A second theatre opened in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, in December 1996 and the third opened in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, in 1998. In 2004, Cineworld was acquired by Blackstone private equity group for £120m. The following year, Cineworld acquired the UK and Ireland operations of French cinema company UGC. In December 2017, Cineworld purchased US chain Regal Cinemas for $3.6 billion, creating the world's second-largest cinema group. In 7 September 2022, Cineworld filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

2nd Logo (2003-2005)

Trailer: We pan in up to a cinema to see the Cineworld logo forming on the screen; a star with a ribbon flowing through it is formed through various parts, while the stacked text "CINEWORLD MULTIPLEX CINEMA" is formed via smoke underneath it. Suddenly, the logo zooms in three times and explodes, bringing forth a CGI woman wearing a white swimshirt with the Cineworld logo on it and red shorts, who leaps out of the screen (she'll be referred to henceforth as the "Cinegirl"). She wipes her brow and smiles, and then walks up the aisle dividing the seats. She catches a man smoking, and drags him out of the theater, as we zoom into a "No Smoking" sign. We cut back to the Cinegirl, who wipes her hands and leaves, as we pan to the cinema screen in the background showing a brief ad for theater foods ("Why not try a Cinedeal? Available from the refreshments counter.") The Cinegirl is about to head to the lobby, when a girl talking loudly on her cellphone enters the arena. The girl gasps in fright and looks around anxiously; the Cinegirl karate-kicks the phone out of the girls hand and crushes it with her hands! She then leaves the arena and throws the phone in the trash, as we pan to a sign on the door reading, "Please turn off MOBILE PHONES." We zoom into the food counter, and pan around it, as the Cinegirl buys a bag of popcorn, a hot dog, and a cup of soda, and heads back into the theater. The girl sits down, and is about to enjoy the upcoming movie, until she spots two people in the crowd talking loudly. She shushes them, and clunks their heads together. They "see stars", and we pan into one of the spinning stars, which then turns into the finished Cineworld logo shown at the start, now with a Dolby credit at the bottom.

Variants:

  • The part near the end where the woman bonks the two talkers' heads together generated some complaints over it being too violent. As such, this part was amended; after the woman shushes the two, we cut to a quick zoom-in on a sign reading "No Talking" (with the sign showing the Cinegirl grimacing) before cutting back to the rest of the animation.
  • A variant without the Dolby logo exists.

Technique: CGI animation.

Music/Sounds: We open with a dramatic fanfare ending with five orchestral hits, proceeding to a loungey cocktail tune heard throughout, which starts with a hip-hop feel but heads into a more salsa-flavored style. When the Cinegirl enters the theater, there's a soft synthesized string fanfare, ending in a triumphant finish.

Availability: Extinct in cinemas. The original uncensored version of this trailer has been deemed lost, as no known recordings or captures of it have been found.

8th Logo (2021- )

Logo: On a starry background, a giant red star appears on screen as the camera pans down to the bottom of it. We then fade to "WELCOME BACK", after which we fade back to the camera swooping inside the star. We then fade to "NO TALKING OR CHECKING YOR PHONE". After that, we fade to the star tilting from right to left, after which we fade to "GET READY TO FEEL MORE AGAIN". Once that fades out, the star zooms out to the left side of the screen as the words "Feel more at Cineworld Cinemas" appear.

Technique: CGI.

Music/Sounds: A cinematic orchestrated theme with an announcer.

Music/Sounds Variants: In 2023, the theme was changed to one with a choir and the announcer was changed to be more calmer-sounding.

Availability: Current. Seen before every showing at Cineworld cinemas in the UK and Ireland.
